FM “Rock” Radio Fails, Miserably!

Warning: This blog may contain some dirty words.

With the era of i pods and satellite radio here, conventional FM “Classic Rock” stations across the country fail miserably. Rather than have the balls to stand out and re-invent the format; FM rock stations continually beat the shit out of the same old tired format. We all know that long gone are the days when radio disc jockeys could make a band or artist. Instead like retarded puppets they just play what the big corporations tell them to play. Disney or nickelodeon will never produce a band like The Beatles, but this is the brainless corporate mentality behind what goes into today’s FM.

Let’s just get this out of the way right off the bat; you are NOT the home of rock and roll. Period. Not every radio station across America can all be “the home of rock and roll”. Unless you are broadcasting you stupid radio show from Chuck Berry’s, Jerry Lee Lewis’ or Little Richard’s living room you are no where even close to the home of rock and roll. You would think that someone in the media and promotions business would be able to come up with a better line. Does anyone have an original thought anymore?

When you listen to rock FM radio, you get the feeling that every program director is a 12 year old girl with a small collection of CD’s, but only plays her favorite songs of the same 30 damn CD’s.

Let’s start here; there are few songs that radio stations can retire from their “catalog” of music in their play list. Here are a dozen songs that you’re typical FM “Home of rock and roll” stations have ass raped continually.

  1. Sweet Home Alabama

Is this song not fused with our DNA at this point, do we really need to hear this fucking song everyday? I liked this song the first 100 times, stop it already! Who is requesting this still? Who ever is calling the station and asking to hear this song; again; stop screwing you sister and go steal the CD from Wal Mart. Knock yourself out, put it on loop and listen all day.

  1. Stairway To Heaven

Again, please everyone has heard it. Unless you have been in a coma for the past 35 years or have alzheimers disease we are all familiar with this tune, give it a rest. Also add “Rock and Roll”, you know there is a pretty good live version of that song?

  1. Don’t Fear the Reaper

What the fuck is the deal with this song? Is it the cowbell thing?

  1. Tom Sawyer

I love Rush, 35 (or so) albums since 1974 one of the greatest bands of all time and all you can play is Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Spirit of the Radio, and Working Man. This is just fucking asinine. For the love of god play something else besides the same old shit. You have taken perfectly good songs and played them to the point that I can't turn the station off quick enough.

  1. Guns and Roses version of “Live and Let Die”

Come on?! Really? This isn’t even Paul’s best tune. What am I not getting here? Maybe play it on Christmas.

  1. AC/DC You Shook me all Night Long

You can drop “Back in Black” from your play list also, we have all heard it, in fact most of us probably own in either on CD or Digital Format. If I really want to hear “You Shook Me” all I have to do is find a strip club somewhere and have the benefit of watching some skanky stripper pole dance while I listen to it.

  1. Freebird

I don’t think I need to say it. Just go back and read #1.

  1. Old Time Rock and Roll- Bob Seger

I would rather listen to the sound of a bag of kittens being beat to death with a baseball bat then have to endure this song again. OK that's not true I like little kittens. This song had its moment, it was in that stupid movie, just let it go. Let it die in peace. To bad you can’t hear the sound of people turning off your station. *Just a note, this song has been played at every red neck firehouse banquet room wedding there ever was.

  1. Joe Walsh “life's been good”

I used to like this song, about 200 plays ago.

  1. Kiss “rock and roll all night”

11. Stranglehold – Ted N.

I just assume that this song coming in at 8:22 the DJ has to drop a deuce. I’d almost rather hear that.

12. Surrender- Cheap Trick

Come on!!! Come on!!! They have so many other great songs! I know lets play Surrender again. You’re fucking retarded.

And the list goes on, don’t get me wrong I appreciate the entire collection of artist listed above and their contributions to rock, but cheese and rice play some other songs from them.

The VERY TIERED Format

Let’s take two douchebags who are mildly amusing, and might say something interesting occasionally and let them mindlessly babble all morning. Then, for no apparent reason let’s put in a woman who main job is to throw in the: uh huh, yeah, mm hum, uh huh, yeah, mm hum, uh huh, yeah, mm hum. Oh yeah, and do the weather and news and school closings. Then talk about sports for an hour. If I want to hear about sports, I can tune in to ESPN.

As for school closings, wouldn’t it be easier on a real bad snow day just to list the schools that are open? No let’s just spend 20 minutes reading every school in the area that makes a lot more sense. How fucking retarded are we? What knuckel heads don't have the internet to see if the school their kid goes to is open? Oh yeah...right.

Then for the rest of the day play “Surrender”, “Limelight”, “Life’s been good”, and all the other songs “Rock” stations continually ass rape. Don’t forget about “Two for Tuesdays”, OR “Double shot Wednesday” and “Get the Led Out”, real original. Is this really the only format anyone can come up with? This lame and same old tiered radio shtick is turning listeners away. You would think that in this terrible economy someone would come up with more innovative and interesting radio to keep people listening.

God forbid if “the homo of rock and roll” played a Frank Zappa song or an independent unsigned artist. When was the last time you heard a Jeff Beck song played on FM? (He won a Grammy in 2010 for best Rock Instrumental Performance) Have you heard it on any FM rock station?

With the advancement of technology and portable media, free pod casts that are actually interesting and entertaining FM radio is on the fast track to death and becoming obsolete. I can’t say that I’ll miss it.
